The Following – season 1, episode 1
Kevin Bacon plays the part of an FBI Agent named Ryan Hardy who tracked and single handedly captured serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) while he was attempting to kill his latest victim, Sarah Fuller (Maggie Grace). Sarah survived the attack and went on to become a nurse, Agent Hardy also survived but it cost him his health and his career.
Now, 8 years later, the FBI has called Hardy out of retirement to assist in the killer’s recapture. Joe Carroll has cleverly escaped from prison and all indications suggest that he’s on a continued path to blood and gore with obvious intentions of finishing what he had started. In the end, Hardy is dealt yet another tragedy as he’s forced to face the gruesome death of an innocent life that he promised to protect. And also the arrogant confession that Carroll has managed to develop something of a cult of followers that have been dispatched to create murderous havoc throughout the community and beyond.
In my opinion, this would have made for one h3ll of an exciting thriller in the movie theaters. I’m not at all happy though with the idea that it will be aired on Prime Time Television every week for the remainder of the season. Parents Beware!
